Change colour, stroke weight and line style
Pick from six editable colours, four stroke weights and four line styles on the toolbar, or with keys on the canvas.
The toolbar has a palette of colours, four stroke weights and four line styles. Everything you draw next uses whatever is selected. Marks already on screen keep the style they were drawn with.
Colours
The palette starts with six colours: red, yellow, green, blue, black and white. Red is selected to begin with.
On the canvas, ⇧ with a number picks the colour in that position, so a palette of six answers to ⇧1 to ⇧6.
Edit the palette
- Click the pen in the menu bar and choose Preferences…
- Go to Drawing and find Palette.
- Click a swatch to change its colour, or its × to remove it.
- Use Add a colour to add one, up to 12 in total.
Back to the six restores the original palette. Removing a colour doesn’t change anything already drawn in it.
Stroke weights
There are four weights: Thin, Medium, Thick and Extra thick. Medium is selected to begin with. On the canvas, [ makes the stroke thinner and ] makes it thicker.
The weight also sets the size of numbered step badges and how wide the eraser reaches.
Line styles
There are four line styles: solid, dashed, dotted and dash-dot. On the canvas, S cycles through them.
Line styles apply to lines, arrows, rectangles, ellipses and icons. They don’t apply to:
- the pen, the highlighter and the freehand arrow’s shaft, which are ink;
- numbered step badges, which are filled discs;
- arrow heads, which always stay solid.
The toolbar dims the line style buttons while a tool they don’t apply to is selected.
